Supervisory Board appoints Dr. Christian Leifeld as Chief Financial Officer and Dr. Janna Schumacher as Chief Human Resources Officer of Lufthansa Technik
The Executive Board of Lufthansa Technik AG will be joined by two new members effective May 1, 2025: Dr. Christian Leifeld will be the new Chief Financial Officer and Dr. Janna Schumacher will be the new Chief Human Resources Officer of the global market leader for technical aircraft services. The company's Supervisory Board appointed both members for an initial term of three years at its meeting today, and the Executive Board was expanded from three to four members.
Dr. Christian Leifeld, currently Head of Group Controlling at Lufthansa and a member of the Group Executive Committee, will be responsible for Finance as well as Purchasing, Infrastructure, and the Digital Fleet Services business division. He succeeds Dr. William Willms, who left the company at his own request at the end of March. Dr. Janna Schumacher will take over the newly created Human Resources and Legal department with the formal function as “Labor Director” and additional responsibility for the Original Equipment and Special Aircraft Services division. As General Counsel of Lufthansa Technik, she is currently in charge of Legal, Compliance, Foreign Trade Law and ESG.
Following the appointment, the Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of Lufthansa Technik, Grazia Vittadini, said: “Today marks an exciting step forward for Lufthansa Technik. We are delighted to welcome Christian Leifeld and Janna Schumacher, two exceptional leaders whose proven expertise will be invaluable as we continue pursuing our ambitious vision. Christian's outstanding financial acumen and global management experience, gathered within and beyond the Lufthansa Group, make him an ideal addition. Janna’s deep understanding of HR law and her impressive track record both internally and externally bring a crucial perspective to our team. Together with the current members of the Executive Board, Soeren Stark and Harald Gloy, I am confident this powerful management team will inject significant momentum into our strategic goals. I am thrilled to embark on this next chapter with all of them.”
Dr. Christian Leifeld joined the Lufthansa Group in May 2023 and has been the group-wide Head of Controlling and Risk Management. His focus there is on strengthening performance-oriented business management, improving investment and cash flow planning and digitalizing controlling. In addition, the 47-year-old financial analyst with a doctorate in economics is currently in charge of an efficiency program for the Lufthansa Group's administrative functions, processes, and costs.
His professional career began in 2003 at the management consultancy McKinsey. After founding and serving as CFO of the InterNations start-up (now part of New Work SE), Dr. Christian Leifeld joined the E.ON Group in 2009, where he first held several management positions in finance. In 2017, he took charge of corporate planning and thereafter, for a short time, the Group Controlling, Accounting & Risk division before becoming CFO of E.ON in the Czech Republic from 2020 to 2023, where he was responsible for the network infrastructure and sales business with around 4,000 employees.
Dr. Janna Schumacher returned to the Lufthansa Group in 2014 after having worked for the major international law firm Allen & Overy. For the past four years, she has been Head of Legal, Compliance, Foreign Trade Law and ESG at Lufthansa Technik. In this role, her focus is on operationalizing the legal department and ensuring export and customs compliance. She is also responsible for embargo compliance for the entire Lufthansa Group. She most recently built up the ESG division.
Before joining Lufthansa Technik, the 42-year-old lawyer with a doctorate in law was responsible for labor law in the corporate legal department for several years, working closely with the Lufthansa Group's works and collective bargaining partners.
